Judge Thomas E. Huff

Judge Thomas E. Huff was born in Augusta, Georgia, on June 5, 1949.

His parents are Ernest R. Huff, a retired electrician and Trilby C. Huff, deceased.

Judge Huff received an Associate Degree in Science from the University of South Carolina-Aiken in 1969, Bachelor of Business Degree from Augusta College, now Augusta State University in 1971 and his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1975.

He was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1978 and served continuously until February of 1996 when he resigned to seek a seat on the South Carolina Court of Appeals.

While in the South Carolina House, he served on the House Judiciary Committee and chaired the General Laws Sub-Committee. He was also Chairman of the Rules Committee.

During his legislative service, he was extensively involved in the development of family law and was co-author of South Carolina's Equitable Division Statute.

Judge Huff was also an appointee to the South Carolina Symposium, "Families in Court". Judge Huff provided several presentations and legislative updates, stressing the area of Family Law, to the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association.

He co-chaired the Joint Committee on Tort Reform which proposed legislative changes to South Carolina's Tort System.

Judge Huff, prior to his election to the Court of Appeals, served as a corporate attorney for Aiken Electric Cooperative one of the three largest cooperatives in South Carolina.

Judge Huff is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and the Aiken County Bar Association. He was admitted to practice in all South Carolina Courts and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.

He is a member of Curtis Baptist Church.

Judge Huff and his wife Patricia have one daughter and three grandchildren.
