Judge Robin B. Stilwell is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. He was born on December 20, 1966, to H. Samuel Stilwell of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, and Robin Scarborough Stilwell of Lamar, South Carolina. He is a product of the Greenville County Public School System, having graduated from Eastside High School in 1985. Upon graduation from high school, he matriculated at The Citadel, from which he earned a B.A. in English, Class of 1989. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1993 and received his Juris Doctorate Degree.
Judge Stilwell began practicing law with his father in the Stilwell Law Firm in Greenville, South Carolina. He therein began a career of practicing general law in either a small firm or as a sole practitioner. Immediately preceding election to the bench, he was a shareholder in the firm of Hunter, Tomaszek & Stilwell, P.A., where he had a general practice focused on the representation of small businesses. Judge Stilwell also served as the Municipal Court Judge for the town of Mauldin from 2000 through 2009.
Upon graduation from The Citadel, Judge Stilwell was commissioned as an Infantry officer in the United States Army and has served continuously since with the South Carolina Army National Guard. He served as an Infantry officer in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from early 2007 through mid 2008. Judge Stilwell was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service while conducting combat operations. Upon return Judge Stilwell was awarded the Palmetto Patriot Award by Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer for sacrifices made in defense of our country and our state.
Judge Stilwell has also served on several boards and commissions in the community. Those include: The Greenville Literacy Association, Board of Directors (1998-2003, Past President); Eastside YMCA Advisory Board (2004-2006); Mental Health Association of South Carolina, Board of Directors (2005-2006); Greenville Hospital System Patewood Advisory Board (2005-2006). Judge Stilwell is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Judge Stilwell is married to Charlotte Whelan Stilwell of Greenville, South Carolina. He is blessed with three children: Charlotte Elizabeth (Eli), born June 11, 1997; Dorothy Scarborough (Dee), born January 6, 1999; and Joseph Whelan, born October 27, 2001.
