Responsibilities
The Clerk of Courts’ office is a multi-functional county government office. Records from the General Sessions, Common Pleas, and Family Courts are filed and retained in this office. The office of the Register of Deeds is also a part of the Clerks’ Office. Records such as, deeds, mortgages, plats, and liens are filed and retained in the vault. Most records are available for public inspection. The only exceptions to this are those that are protected by law or have been sealed by an order of the court. Jurors are drawn, notified, and managed by the Clerk of Court. Payments for child support, alimony, and some restitution are received, posted and mailed to the appropriate recipient. The preparing and notification of the rosters for use in the Common Pleas and Family Courts are a responsibility of the Clerk of Court. All other duties as described by law. |
