Judge Leslie Kirkland Riddle was born on December 30, 1958 in Columbia, South Carolina. Her parents are Henry W. and Patricia Moorer Kirkland of Columbia, South Carolina. She has three brothers, H. Wesley Kirkland of Columbia, South Carolina, W. Keith Kirkland, of Charleston, South Carolina, William D. Kirkland of Atlanta, Georgia.
She graduated from Irmo High School in 1977 and then went on to Clemson University where she graduated in 1981. She attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and graduated in 1984.
Judge Riddle started her legal career as an Assistant Solicitor for the Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office from 1982 to 1986. She worked for the Volunteer Guardian ad Litem Project of Richland County from 1988 to 1990 while also in private practice with the law firm of Kirkland, Dodson, Rush and Riddle in Columbia, South Carolina until her election as Family Court Judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit in 1995 where she has served since that time.
She is a member of Saint Luke's Lutheran Church in Columbia. She is married to Charles Dayton Riddle, III. They have three children.
