Judge Harry L. (Don) Phillips, Jr.

Judge Harry L. “Don” Phillips, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 9, 1964.  He is the son of the late Dr. Harry L. Phillips, Sr. and the late Sue Smith Phillips.

Judge Phillips attended public schools in his hometown of Columbiana, Alabama, and graduated from Shelby County High School in 1983. He received a bachelor of arts degree (with high honors) from Auburn University in 1987.  Subsequently, Judge Phillips obtained his juris doctorate degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1991.

Upon graduation from law school, he entered private practice in Greenville, South Carolina, first with the firm Haynsworth, Marion, McKay and Guerard, and then in 1995 with Hunter, Foster and Phillips.  In 2001 he began practice with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, representing the Department in child and vulnerable adult abuse and neglect cases. In May, 2011, Judge Phillips was elected by the South Carolina General Assembly to the position of Family Court Judge, Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, Seat 3.

Judge Phillips is a member of the South Carolina, Alabama, and Greenville County Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice in all South Carolina Courts and in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Judge Phillips and his wife Tammy are the parents of four children, sons Hank, Carson, and Walker, and a daughter, Peyton.  They attend Buncombe Street United Methodist Church in Greenville.
