Like many courts across the country, the South Carolina Appellate Courts are using imaging technologies to streamline the document archival process and eventually reduce the dependency on paper case files. It is envisioned that case files will eventually be managed and archived electronically through the integration of the Appellate CMS, E-filing, and the document imaging system. The first phase of the project has been completed with the implementation of scanning/indexing stations at the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Upon completion of a case, the entire file folder is scanned and indexed into the system. Additional functionality will be added to this system in the future when economic conditions improve.
