Elected as Georgetown County Probate Judge on November 4, 1980, Waldo A. Maring is currently serving his ninth term. Judge Maring also serves as Judge for the Georgetown County Drug Court created in 2011.
Judge Maring graduated from Columbia Commercial College with a degree in Business Administration. He has also earned in excess of five hundred (500) Judicial Continuing Legal Education hours during his thirty-five (35) years of service.
Judge Maring served on the Andrews Town Council from 1976-1981 and as Mayor Pro-temp from 1978-1981. He is a member of the South Carolina Association of Probate Judges and the National College of Probated Judges. He served as President of the South Carolina Association of Probate Judges from 1987-1988. Judge Maring served on the faculty for New Probate Judges Training in 1993, 1995, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011. He was the coordinator/moderator for the judges training in 2005, 2007, and 2009. Chief Justice Gregory Harwell and Chief Justice Jean Toal appointed Judge Maring to the South Carolina Judicial Council where he served from 1992-2000. He was appointed to the South Carolina Court Administration’s Probate Judges Advisory Committee and served from 1983-1990. In 2004, he was re-appointed to the Advisory Committee and he served as Chairman from 2004-2010.
Judge Maring is married to the former Teresa Collins Gaskins and has three daughters, one son, and 5 grandchildren. A native of Andrews, SC, he now resides in Murrells Inlet, SC.
