Judge Deirdre W. Edmonds was born on November 2, 1959, in Aiken County, South Carolina. She attended the University of South Carolina and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1984 and a juris doctor degree in 1987. She was licensed to practice law in the State of South Carolina on November 23, 1987.
Upon completing law school, Judge Edmonds moved to Myrtle Beach and began her legal career at the law firm of Bellamy, Rutenberg, Copeland, Epps, Gravely, & Bowers, P.A. During her ten (10) year tenure with the Bellamy Law Firm, Deirdre focused primarily on estate planning, probate, corporate, tax, and elder law. Judge Edmonds practiced law with the law firm of Kathryn Cook DeAngelo from September 1997 until December 2001, where she continued to concentrate in the areas of estate and disability planning, elder law and probate administration. Judge Edmonds was elected as Probate Judge for Horry County on November 5, 2002.
Judge Edmonds is a member of the South Carolina Bar, section on Probate, Estate Planning and Trust, the Horry County Bar Association, the National College of Probate Judges, and the S.C. Association of Probate Judges. She has been a member of the Grand Strand Area Estate Planning Council since its inception in the early 1990's and served on its Board of Directors from 1997-2000. Judge Edmonds has also been a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) since 1995 and is also a member of the Carolinas Chapter of NAELA. Judge Edmonds is a member of the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association, the Coastal Business Women's Network and the Coastal Women's Law Society, having served as Co-President of the Society from January 1998 to December 1999.
Judge Edmonds is married to Waymon S. Edmonds and has three (3) girls, twins, Jessie and Katherine, and the youngest, Aubrey.
