Grand Opening and Dedication of New Lexington County Judicial Center

Grand Opening and Dedication of New Lexington County Judicial Center

Lexington County's New Judicial Center

Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremonies for the new Lexington County Judicial Center were held on Sunday, February 22, 2004.  Lexington County's 200th birthday was celebrated as well.

As Lexington County has grown so have the needs of its citizens.  Lexington County has had six courthouses in the past, but the new one is the first to be called the Lexington County Judicial Center.  The new Judicial Center will serve the county's more than 200,000 citizens.

Chief Justice Jean H. Toal was a guest speaker for the event.  Circuit Court Judge Marc Westbrook was instrumental in planning for and building the new center.  Judge Westbrook, who also served as Chairman for the Dedication Committee, delivered the keynote address.

Those attending Sunday's celebration were able to tour the new facility and each family received a history CD tracing Lexington’s six former courthouses.  Thad Westbrook, the project coordinator for the CD, is the son of Circuit Court Judge Marc Westbrook.

The new Judicial Center is a state of the art facility in its use of court technology.  A group of attorneys interested in technology, the Friends of the Courthouse, provided guidance and raised money for some of the technology in use in the facility.  Kirk Morgan is chairman of the Friends of the Courthouse.

All Offices formerly housed in the Courthouse and Courthouse Annex have been relocated to the new Judicial Center including: General Sessions Criminal Court; Common Pleas Civil Court; Family Court; Probate Court; Master-in-Equity; Drug Court; Solicitor; Solicitor's Pre-Trial Intervention; Clerk-of-Court; and Legislative Delegation Office.
